Vehicle Data Concentrator
Tester
Challenge: The vehicle data concentrator uses the SAE-J1587 automotive
communications protocol to receive information from the engine controller
and send and receive information from the instrument cluster in the vehicle.
Providing a wide range of pressure stimuli to the data concentrator (10-150
psi) requires the test software to control a servo-driven pressure regulator.
Solution: The tester applies stimuli to the data concentrator
— for example, applying various pressures to the pressure transducers.
The software then decodes the data packet sent over the J1587 line to
test its response. The tester also programs the odometer mileage and tests
proper odometer functionality, while testing all other inputs/outputs
on the module.
